Allee Schloss Ottmanach

Ottmanach Castle is located at the southern foot of the Magdalensberg in the municipality of the same name in Carinthia . The listed building and the associated manor are privately owned and today houses a farm.

history

Ottmanach was one of the first places in Carinthia to be mentioned in a document from Emperor Otto II in 980 as Königshube Otmanica . The rule later belonged to the Counts of Tyrol and the Counts of Görz , and later to the taverns of Osterwitz .

A castle was only mentioned in 1587 when it was owned by Christof von Mooshaim. Ottmanach was a noble seat without any military function. Ownership changed frequently, in 1671 it was owned by Ehrenreich von Mossheimb, who sold Ottmanach to Heinrich Älbl von Albenburg. In the third quarter of the 18th century it belonged to Baron Franz Johann von Gailberg. At this time, the facility in its current form was likely to have been built, even if several modifications were made afterwards. In 1891 Franz Sales Englhofer and in 1930 the Bockelmann family owned Ottmanach. A scion of the originally German banking family and son of Ottmanach mayor Rudolf Bockelmann was pop singer Udo Jürgens , who grew up on the estate.

In 1957 the Bromovsky family bought the estate and castle. She runs a farm here as well as a riding stable and rents out holiday apartments.

Building description

The castle is a large two-storey building with an irregular, hook-shaped floor plan. The wings are covered with high hip roofs. The yellow colored facades date from the third quarter of the 18th century. The ground floor is grooved , on the upper floor, the front pages by pilasters divided, they have fighters capitals on. The windows, equipped with plaster frame and parapet fields, have rounded and bent roofs . A round arched portal with a vaulted gable leads to the narrow, rectangular courtyard between the northern and southern parts of the building. A Roman-era grave plaque is built into a courtyard wall.

To the east of the castle is a large barn with ventilation openings made of bricks and another farm building.

The castle is surrounded by a large garden, which is bordered by a park wall. There are several stone figures in the terraced park.
