Sturefors Castle

The Sturefors Castle (formerly Thurefors ) is located on Lake gain in the Swedish municipality of Linköping , which the province Östergötland belongs. The name of the castle comes from Margareta Sture, the wife of a previous owner.

The first castle was built at the end of the 16th century. Only a few parts of the north wing of this building still exist. The main building with its three floors and the high pitched roof was designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. J. designed for Count Carl Piper . Part of the palace park, which was begun in 1707, was also built according to plans by Nicodemus Ticino based on the French model. The park was later expanded and redesigned according to plans by Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz and Fredrik Adolf Ulrik Cronstedt . The castle is mainly characterized by its furnishings from the 18th century. It has had the status of a Byggnadsminne since 1976 .

The building has belonged to the Oxenstierna family since 1617 . In 1747 it became the property of the Bielke family , who still inhabit it today. The current owner is Count Nils Bielke. There is a portrait collection in the castle, the pictures of which show members of these noble houses or other nobles.
