The Werdenberg Castle , also Werdenberg Castle called, is a Renaissance chateau of the Counts of Werdenberg in Trochtelfingen in the district of Reutlingen . It should not be confused with the Werdenberg castle, Werdenberg Castle .

history

The castle was built by the Werdenbergers in the middle of the 15th century. After the count family died out in 1534 - the daughter of the last count, Anna, was with Count Friedrich III. zu Fürstenberg married - the rulership and with it Trochtelfingen and the castle came into the possession of their youngest son, Count Joachim der Fürstenberg . Count Friedrich IV zu Fürstenberg made it a residence. It served the rulers as a residence and official residence and was also the residence of the Obervogts.

From 1806 to 1850 Trochtelfingen belonged to Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and the castle was the seat of the Obervogteiamt Trochtelfingen . Even afterwards, as part of the Prussian Hohenzollern Lands , the castle remained the seat of the Oberamt until 1861 , when Trochtelfingen became part of the Oberamt Gammertingen .

In 1869, the Fürstenberg noblemen sold the castle to the city of Trochtelfingen, who set up a school that still exists.

The castle was extensively renovated from 2011 to 2012.
