The slight clover ( Trifolium suffocatum ) is a species of plant from the genus clover ( Trifolium ). It is placed in the genus in the Lotoidea section , Platystylium subsection .

description

The skinny clover is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches heights of between 3 and 10 centimeters. The stem axis is extremely short and often almost non-existent. If visible, it is bald or very slightly hairy.

The leaves are very long stalked and stand upright or ascending. The leaves are dreifedrig, the individual pinna between 0.3 and 0.8 inches long and 0.2 to 0.6 inches wide. The blades are obovate and narrow towards the base. The leaf margin is finely indented, at least in the upper part. The base is heart-shaped, the tip notched. The stipules are cuticle-like, ovate and pointed.

The inflorescences are sessile and sit in the leaf axils. They are dominated by the stipules. They measure 0.5 to 0.8 centimeters and have few flowers. The individual flowers are sessile or almost sessile. The bracts are tiny and lanceolate.

The calyx is 0.3 to 0.5 inches long, it is barely or not hairy. It is tubular in the lower part and clearly ten-nerved. The calyx teeth are lanceolate, three-veined, just as long as the calyx tube and curved back or sickle-shaped.

The crown is 0.3 to 0.4 inches long and white. The flag is obovate. It is longer than the shuttle and the wings.

The legumes are paper-like, egg-shaped and two-seeded. It is between 0.3 and 0.5 inches long and constricted between the two seeds . The stylus can still be recognized as a point on the fruits. The seeds are less than 1 millimeter in diameter and are yellow in color. They are kidney or lens shaped. The surface is rough.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The distribution area of ​​the slight clover includes Western Europe, the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores. Neophytic occurrences can be found in almost all of Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.

Slender clover grows in grazed areas and along roadsides.
