description

Narrow-leaved spurflower ( Centranthus angustifolius )

The narrow-leaved spurflower is a perennial plant that can reach heights of up to 70 centimeters. The rhizome is short and knotty. The stem is erect and has numerous pairs of leaves. The leaves are sessile, narrowly lanceolate, up to 10 centimeters long and 0.6 centimeters wide, only rarely wider.

The flowers are arranged in dense, three-column umbels. The crown is pink and fused. It has a corolla tube 7 to 12 millimeters long and spurred at the base, 5 extended tips up to 3 millimeters long and only one stamen. The spur is shorter than the tube. At the time of flowering the calyx is just a ring-shaped bulge, at the time of fruiting it has 10 to 25 feathery hairy bristles.

Flowering time is from July to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 32.

Occurrence
