The narrow-gauge railway Třemešná ve Slezsku – Osoblaha is a narrow-gauge railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the Austrian state as the Röwersdorf – Hotzenplotz local railway. It branches off in Třemešná ve Slezsku ( Röwersdorf ) from the Krnov – Głuchołazy railway line and leads to Osoblaha ( Hotzenplotz ). It is the last narrow-gauge railway in operation by the state-owned Czech railway company České dráhy (ČD).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

Special steam train with U57.001 in Osoblaha (2009)

The line was opened on December 14, 1898 as a local railway by the kk Austrian State Railways kkStB. In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated four mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains over the entire route. The trains needed an hour and 14 minutes for the 25-kilometer route from Röwersdorf to Hotzenplotz.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

The commissioning of modern motor trains by the ČSD at the end of the 1920s made it possible to densify the timetable as well as to significantly reduce travel times. In the winter timetable of 1937, five pairs of motorized passenger trains are listed, which only needed 52 minutes for the route in the direction of Hotzenplotz.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line became part of the Deutsche Reichsbahn . The connection was now included in the Reich curriculum as KBS 151c Röwersdorf – Hotzenplotz. At the end of the Second World War , vehicles and systems were destroyed in the course of the fighting around Hotzenplotz. The traffic was stopped.

On May 9, 1945 the line came back to the ČSD. These resumed travel in 1945, initially with three pairs of trains.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

In the 2013 timetable, the route is served by five pairs of passenger trains on weekdays and four pairs of passenger trains on weekends. A historic Slezské zemské dráhy train also runs on the weekends of the summer half-year .

On January 16, 2020, operations had to be discontinued for legal reasons, as the only existing locomotive does not have the prescribed train radio. Until the locomotive has been retrofitted, travel must be handled by rail replacement services.

Vehicle use

From 1928 the ČSD acquired two Tatra tower cars of the M 11.0 series , which were a narrow-gauge version of the ČSD M 120.4 series .

From 1948 a Saxon replica VI K was used, which had been confiscated by the ČSD in 1945 in Frýdlant v Čechách ( Friedland ) ( narrow-gauge railway Frýdlant – Heřmanice ). The locomotive was designated as U 58.001 by the ČSD, and number 99 702 by the Deutsche Reichsbahn. The locomotive was used until 1957 and then returned to Frýdlant v Čechách . It was retired in 1962.

From 1955 a ČSD class U 47.0 (U 47.003) locomotive was also in service in Osoblaha. It was retired and scrapped in 1961.

Since 1958 the traffic has been operated mainly with the diesel locomotives of the series T 47.0 (ČD 705.9).

A former Yugoslavian tender locomotive of Czechoslovak origin, which is now known as the U 57.001 , is used in front of nostalgic trains .
