Shmuel , also Shmuel (of Hebrew. שְׁמוּאֵל, ʃmuʔel , Schmu'el) is a male first name .

Origin and meaning

Shmuel is the name of a biblical prophet and is usually rendered as Samuel in German Bible translations . The derivation of the name in Hebrew is difficult, even if the Bible in 1 Sam 1,20  EU made a statement: "And they gave him the name Schmu'el because of YHWH I have asked him." The word for ask is clam 'al , the passive participle is scha'ul (from which the name שָׁאוּל, Saul ). The Hebrew word for God is El . The letter mem (the M ) in the name Schmu'el could be explained in German with the preposition of . Seen in this way, the whole name is a statement: “Requested by God”, which is a short description of the circumstances of his birth and emphasizes the situation of his mother Hanna .
