history
The Schnepfenkapelle was donated in 1775 by the farmer Johann Georg Schneider, who lived there on the "Schnepfenhof". At first only the chapel building was built. The tower with the bell house was only built in 1912. The interior is equipped with a late baroque chapel altar. In the middle of the triumphal arch there is a standing radiant wreath depicting Mary with a scepter in the left hand and the blessing baby Jesus on the right forearm. The altar is crowned by an extract from the altar with a Pietà . It is a copy of the miraculous image from the 1st half of the 15th century. The original that still exists is in the Grossenlüder local history museum. The chapel is a destination for pilgrimages .
Modern times
On April 26, 2014, the roof structure burned out, presumably due to a lightning strike, and was rebuilt.
The new bell was consecrated on May 2nd, 2015. The roof structure was topped on May 9th and the chapel was reopened on August 1st, 2015 after the blessing by Pastor Sebastian Blümel. Since then the Angelus has been ringing again at 12:00 and 18:00 .
The Schnepfenkapelle is located directly on the Bonifatius Route and on the Antsanvia .
