Scholastic (orig .: Scholastic Corporation ) is a US- American publisher specializing in educational content for school and educational purposes. The publisher is most likely best known for owning the rights to the Harry Potter series in the United States.

The Publisher

In addition to the regular book trade, Scholastic also sells its products via the Internet or through book clubs and fairs. The company has recently expanded its business by taking over various other companies, such as Klutz Press , Tom Snyder Productions (an educational software producer) and, above all, the literary publisher Grolier, which is supported by the Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia and the New Book Of Knowledge is known. Scholastic has company stocks on the NASDAQ financial index.

After the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2005, the publishing house was target of a campaign by Greenpeace and the National Wildlife Federation went out, which was aimed to persuade consumers to the edition of the book better at the Canadian publisher Raincoast Books to since Raincoast Books advertised printing the book on entirely recycled paper, whereas Scholastic did not provide any details about the printing paper.

Currently, Scholastic is owned by Richard Robinson, who acts as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and company president and with the 2,017 liters Arian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community of the National Book Award was awarded. Under Robinson's leadership, the organization generated $ 2.079 billion in 2005, approximately half of which was in net income.
