The SchoolJam is a nationwide band competition for young and school bands in Germany. The annual school band competition is organized by SchoolJam eV, a non-profit association that aims to promote music in schools and support school bands in their musical development.

Schoolchildren in grades 5 to 13 as well as vocational school students and FSJ participants up to the age of 21 can participate. The Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth sponsors the SchoolJam . In 2018, the association received the Live Entertainment Award in the “Artist / Young Talent Promotion Category”.

procedure

qualification

Every year school bands can apply for the current SchoolJam competition with an audio sample during an application period . A jury will select a total of 120 bands from the submitted applications to perform in front of an audience at one of a total of twelve regional finals. This is where it is decided which bands will advance to the online voting . Before the online voting, the participants and audio samples that were recorded live during the regional finals will be presented on the Spiegel Online , Regioactive , Huffington Post and the magazines of PPV Verlag. Four finalists are determined by electronic voting and a further four bands by an expert jury. The eight finalists will compete for the title of “Germany's best school band” at Musikmesse Frankfurt .

Prices

After their victory, the winners usually go on a tour organized either by SchoolJam or by the groups themselves. In the summer after the victory, the young band will play on the stages of the Hurricane Festival in Scheeßel and the Southside Festival in Neuhausen ob Eck . The SchoolJam winners then appeared sporadically at Music China in Shanghai as well as in London and Los Angeles .
