Shoshma ( Russian Шожма ) is a railway station in northwestern Russia . The place belongs to the Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 162 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). Shoshma is located in the Nyandomsky rajon .
geography
Shoshma is located about 290 kilometers southwest of the Oblast capital Arkhangelsk . The nearest city Nyandoma is about 28 kilometers south of Shoshma and is also the administrative center of the Rajon. South of Schoschma runs the eponymous river Schoschma , was what the station's name.
history
Shoshma was created at the end of the 19th century when the Vologda –Archangelsk railway line was built . Until the beginning of the 1990s, forestry was the most important industry in the town for a long time. During the Soviet era, a labor camp was established here that lasted until 1985.
Economy and Infrastructure
Shoshma is a station of the Northern Railway on the Konosha - Arkhangelsk line . Due to the lack of road connections, the railway is also the only route to the nearby Rajon center of Nyandoma. Since the breakdown of forestry in Shoshma, rail transport is the only remaining branch of the economy. Among other things, Shoschma owns a library.
