Schröder-Kim So-yeon , 김소연 Korean , (* 1968 in Seoul , South Korea ) is a South Korean business manager , interpreter and translator . She has been the fifth wife of former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder since May 2018 .

Life

Kim So-yeon traveled from Seoul to Germany in 1994 and studied German for a while at the Philipps University in Marburg in the 1990s . During her studies, she was in the new federal states in the year the Berlin Wall came down . In 1995 she moved to Magdeburg and studied economics at Otto von Guericke University . At the same time she attended Japanese language courses at the university . She then worked as a freelance translator and founded the interpreting firm "Mirae Translation & Communications" in Seoul. When Edmund Stoiber visited South Korea in 2003, she translated a speech by the then Bavarian Prime Minister into Korean as an interpreter in Seoul .

In July 2011 she was employed as a representative of the business development agency NRW.Invest GmbH in the international office in Seoul. In the following years she acted as a manager for over 80 South Korean entrepreneurs who founded their branches in North Rhine-Westphalia. Kim So-yeon is a member of the German-Korean Forum and has worked for years in expanding German-South Korean relations , most recently in 2016 as part of the Industry 4.0 and Smart Factory projects .

As an interpreter, she met in 2015 at a managers meeting in South Korea Gerhard Schröder know and translated 2016/17 whose 540-page autobiography decisions into Korean. South Korean President Moon Jae-in was present at the book launch on September 12, 2017 in Seoul .

Kim So-yeon was first married to a plastic surgeon in Seoul and had a daughter there. The marriage with Gerhard Schröder took place on May 2, 2018 in Seoul. The official registration of the marriage took place on August 22nd in the Hanoverian registry office in the old town hall . The couple have the family name "Schröder" and live alternately in Hanover and Seoul. The wedding celebration with around 150 guests and family members took place on October 5, 2018 in the Berlin Hotel Adlon - Kempinski .
