Terror of the Caribbean - The Treasure Island is an American adventure film from 1999, which on the novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson , however, changed dramatically based, end of story. The director was Peter Rowe .

At the beginning you see a group of pirates, led by Captain Flint, who are burying treasure on an island. The pirate Billy Bones is angry because he was not allowed to be at the burial and does not know where the treasure is buried. A few years later Bones stranded in England, where he went to an inn, where the boy Jim Hawkins lived with his seriously ill grandmother. When Billy Bones is dying after a stroke, he gives Jim his most important items, including the treasure map, which many pirates are after, some of them storm the inn to get the map, there is a shooting, Jim escapes and the pirates flee.

Jim and the doctor Dr. Livesey ride to Squire Trelawney and decide to look for the treasure and divide it up among themselves. A few days later, the Hispaniola set sail under Captain Smollett and a group of pirates, the pirate leader is Long John Silver. On board, Jim overhears a conversation between a group of pirates by chance, they are planning a mutiny on board to have the treasure to themselves, Jim tells his people who plan to punish and imprison all pirates. As the ship approaches an island, Jim goes ashore with some pirates to explore the area. The pirate George Merry threatens Jim with a sword because he thinks Jim knows where the treasure is buried, but Jim manages to escape and meets Ben Gunn, a former pirate who has been stuck on the island for three years.

Meanwhile, the mutiny begins on board, the men around Captain Smollett, Dr. Livesey and Squire Trelawny are able to escape in a boat, on the island they settle behind an old picket fence, the pirates have taken over the ship. The pirates who survived also disembark and sweep the island, Jim believes that his people were captured on the ship. When Jim returns to the Hispaniola, he narrowly escapes death as a pirate survived the mutiny.

Jim and Ben are captured by the pirates and befriend Long John Silver, who wants to turn Jim into a real pirate, but John Hunter sees Jim as a hostage. The next day the pirates want to negotiate with Captain Smollett, they would give Jim back if they got the card, Smollett initially refused, but later he agrees, but Jim does not want to go back and now belongs to the pirates. When the pirates are looking for the treasure, the men of Smollett sneak after them, but a nasty surprise awaits the pirates, the treasure has already been unearthed, while the pirates are digging wildly, there is a shooting between the men of Smollett and the pirates. All die except for Jim, Ben and John Silver, it turns out that Ben has found the treasure and hidden it, he leads Jim and John Silver to the place, they load the treasure onto the ship and sail towards Panama.

The lexicon of international films ruled that the film was an "underproduced youth film that was a bit like a tourist advertisement for the British Isle of Man" .
