André Gursky

André Gursky (* 1959 in Lutherstadt Eisleben ) is a German philosopher , historian and local researcher . He is a pedagogical employee of the “ Red Ox ” memorial in Halle (Saale) .

Life

Gursky studied philosophy and history at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and graduated in 1985 with a degree in philosopher. He then worked at a party school of the SED , which he had to leave after an application to the central committee of the SED . Until 1989 he then worked in an ironworks in Thale in adult education. In 1989 he became an assistant at the University of Halle (Saale) with a fixed term. His main research interests are local history, Reformation history and GDR history, in particular the political system and criminal justice.

Since 1994 Gursky has headed the “Red Ox” memorial in Halle (Saale), which deals with the processing of political persecution during the Nazi era and in the GDR. In 2010 Gursky received his doctorate at the Institute for Ethnology and Philosophy at Martin Luther University . His dissertation deals with the political background of criminal justice in the GDR.

Gursky acts as an expert for questions about political justice in the GDR. André Gursky has been the representative of the state government of Saxony-Anhalt on the advisory board of the Federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former German Democratic Republic .
