School building Unterstraße 2
The school building on Unterstraße 2 (also called Old School ) is a listed building in the Freital district of Niederhermsdorf ( Wurgwitz district ) in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district .
history
The school building was built in 1853 on Unterstraße in the Niederhermsdorf town center, behind the pond (later called the “school pond”) fed by the Oberhermsdorf brook . As early as 1834, the community had built a school building in the direction of Oberhermsdorf. Before this building, the Niederhermsdorf children were taught in Kesselsdorf . The second Niederhermsdorf school building had three classrooms. In 1875 a tower clock was installed.
After the inauguration of the new school in Wurgwitz in 1908, the building was used for school operations for grades 1 to 4. During the First World War , the bronze school bell was melted down for the production of ammunition. After a new prefabricated school was built on the Quäne in 1982 , the old school stood empty for a while. Later, a carpentry company moved in , which partially renovated the building.
