The Schultenhof zu Marxloh (also Schulte-Marxloh-Hof ) was a medieval , castle-like manor in today's Duisburg district of Marxloh , Hamborn . The courtyard was roughly where Schulte-Marxloh-Strasse meets Kaiser-Friedrich-Strasse today.

history

The Schultenhof was the nucleus of the place Marxloh. Although it was first mentioned in a document in 1421, due to its structural features, among other things, it can be assessed as a few centuries older. The farm had a system of moats and a tower that could be used as storage and refuge. From this it can be concluded with some certainty that the court was the seat of a knight - or at least a servant family .

For centuries, the courtyard of had Schulten the right to tithes belonging to the Schultenhof peasantry . This area, which included the Marxloh district of the large Beeck parish , which was already firmly established around 1400 , extended in the east to the Oberhausen city limits. The ten-duty farms included the Kleinemühlhof, the Großeloh-Hof (documented from 1372) and the Warbrucksgut (documented from 1139). The Schultenhof was subordinate to the Oberhof Beeck , which like the Schultenhof belonged to the Essen monastery .

The first Schulte zu Marxloh known by name was Johann who appeared in 1458/59. He had a son of the same name who died around 1490. As a result, the farm came to Hermann Stratmann vom Stratmannshof through Johann Senior's daughter Adelheid. This was now called "Hermann Stratmann gen. Schulte zu Marxloh" or simply "Hermann Schulte-Marxloh". Other families with the name Schulte-Marxloh followed, for example from Overbruchhof. In the 19th century, the Schulte-Marxloh family at that time acquired the farm and the associated lands from Essen monastery as property. In 1850 the farm comprised 364  acres of land.

Today there is only one house built by Johann Schulte-Marxloh in 1859/1860 (Schulte-Marxloh-Haus) of the Schultenhof. It has been protected as a monument since November 10, 2009 . The remaining buildings were demolished.
