Inside the chapel

The Guardian Angel Chapel is a baroque chapel built in 1712 in Gissigheim in the Main-Tauber district .

history

The chapel was built in 1712 by the Gissigheim noble family von Bettendorf as a stately tomb. The son of the builder dedicated the chapel to the holy guardian angels out of gratitude for his release from Turkish captivity. The parish of St. Peter and Paul has been celebrating the Guardian Angel Festival on the first Sunday in September every year since 1739. The coat of arms of the Bettendorfs can still be seen on the baroque altar today. A large Christmas picture in the chapel comes from the old parish church. It was painted by Johann Paul Codomann in 1683.

The Guardian Angel Chapel belongs to the pastoral care unit Königheim, which is assigned to the deanery Tauberbischofsheim of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
