Location and surroundings

The height lies on the district of Grünz , a district of the city of Penkun in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Most of the height is sparsely forested, only on the eastern parts there is an open agricultural landscape. There is a trigonometric point on the top . The elevation and its surroundings, a strongly structured slope area of the Randow glacial valley, belong to the 697 hectare FFH area "Randowtal bei Grünz and Schwarze Berge".

history

The name of the height is said to go back to the fact that the spruce and pine trees found here shimmered black in the sunshine. As part of the construction of the nearby trunk road, which is now known as Bundesautobahn 11 , a not inconsiderable amount of sand was extracted in several places in 1935 and 1936. Even before World War II until 1956, glider pilots were at home here.

The area was a restricted area for decades. Previously an institution of Administration 15 of the Ministry of National Defense, the site was handed over to the secret service in 1962. It became part of the secret training object with the cover name "Wally". In 1973, as part of a merger, it became one of three properties of the “Central Technical School” in Wartin . Until 1990 a Soviet Tupolev 134-A stood here, on which special units of the Ministry for State Security trained the rescue of hostages from an airplane hijacking. It was part of the training area located here and criss-crossed by bunkers.
