List of domestic dogs

The Russian Black Terrier ( Russian Русский чёрный терьер , transcribed Russki tschorny terjer ) is a Russian dog breed recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 2, Section 1.4, Standard No. 327 ).

History of the breed

In the 1940s, the Red Star Army kennel began to breed a dog for its own needs, following a breeding program designed by Soviet cynologists . The aim of breeding was a large, massive, robust, spirited and willing to work dog, versatile in use, which was able to adapt very well to the great climatic differences of the large country. They went from the start systematically and mated a Giant - dog with a Airedale Terrier -Hündin, a Rottweiler -Rüden with a Giant Schnauzer bitch and once a Giant Schnauzer dog with an Airedale Terrier bitch. This resulted in 4 breeding lines . A total of about 20 breeds were involved in the creation of the black terrier. Incest matings were avoided. So you soon had a dog that was very stable in character and temperament, but not in his appearance. At that time, however, only character and temperament were required. The dogs guarded borders, for example, and were used to protect property.

On May 13, 1981, the black terrier was recognized as the youngest Russian dog breed at the time. The breed was recognized by the FCI on 22/23. May 1984 in Mexico. On January 24, 2012 the breed was renamed from Black Terrier to Russian Black Terrier .

description

The Russian Terrier is a tough working dog up to 78 cm tall . Bitches can be clearly distinguished from the larger and stronger males. He is black, also with gray burin hair , in between hard, dense, somewhat wavy wire hair , which is of course 5 to 15 cm long untrimmed. He has a rough, brush-like mustache on the upper lip and a beard on the lower jaw. The eyebrows are rough and shaggy. The ears are set high, hanging over the cartilage, small and triangular. The front edge is close to the skull.

Russian terriers tend to be suspicious of strangers. You must not show extreme irritability. They are balanced, but show a quick, targeted defensive reaction.

use

Dogs of the breed were originally kept as protection and guard dogs , today mostly as family dogs .
