from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO) (own spelling Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra , French Orchester Symphonique des Jeunes Suisse , Italian Orchestra Sinfonica della Svizzera Gioventù , Romansh Orchestra Sinfonic Svizzer since Giuventetgna ) is a Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra . It was established in 1969 and has been organized as a foundation since 1982 . The orchestra consists of young musicians from all four language regions of Switzerland and is therefore the only nationwide youth symphony orchestra.

orchestra

Twice a year up to a hundred 15- to 25-year-old musicians from Switzerland come together and study works from almost all epochs of classical music under the direction of the conductor Kai Bumann . The spring and autumn tours conclude this multi-day trial phase. The audience and the press were impressed by the high musical quality of the concerts , especially with particularly demanding works such as the 9th Symphony by Gustav Mahler .

history

In the late 1960s, Roman Jann and Christoph Reimann founded the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra with the support of patrons. In 1969, the founding meeting took place in the Zunfthaus “zur Zimmerleuten” in Zurich . The newly founded orchestra met for its first rehearsal on April 29, 1970, and the first concert followed on January 2, 1971 in the concert hall of the Laudinella hotel in St. Moritz. The connection between the SJSO and this hotel has shaped orchestral life to this day. For several years now, the SJSO has been spending its working week at the Laudinella hotel in spring. Since its inception, the chamber orchestra has grown under the direction of various conductors into a full symphony orchestra that today performs in concert halls in Switzerland. In 1999, the Camerata Switzerland emerged on the initiative of some former SJSO musicians .

Foundation purpose

In rehearsals and at concerts, the talented young people should gain decisive experience in orchestral playing for the further course of their musical careers. Former SJSO members are now engaged in professional orchestras at home and abroad. Due to the multilingualism , bridges should also be built between the individual cultures of Switzerland. The foundation is financially supported by the federal government, cantons , municipalities, companies and the sponsoring society.
