Ludwig Wicki (* 1960 in Hellbühl , Canton Lucerne ) is a Swiss composer , trombonist and conductor .

Life

Wicki, whose parents ran an agricultural business in the canton of Lucerne, studied trombone with Rolf Bodendorfer and Professor Branimir Slokar as well as choir and orchestra direction with Martin Flämig , Ewald Körner and Donato Renzetti . From 1980 to 1989 he was a trombonist in the orchestra of the AML (Lucerne Symphony Orchestra) and a founding member of the San Marco Bläser and the Philharmonic Brass Quintet Lucerne.

Ludwig Wicki has worked as a conductor and trombonist on television, radio and CD recordings. In 2007 he was awarded the recognition prize of the City of Lucerne's Art and Culture Prize.

Since 1989 he has been professor of trombone and chamber music at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences , since 2004 lecturer in conducting at the Bern University of the Arts and since 2007 he has been the director of studies for brass music direction at both universities.

Ludwig Wicki was chief conductor of the brass band Bürgermusik Luzern from 1991 to 2009 and he has been the collegiate bandmaster at the Hofkirche Luzern since 1998. He is artistic director of the Renaissance Ensemble II Dolcimelo Luzern and the wind ensemble Ensemble Beaufort.

As the founder and artistic director of the 21st Century Orchestra, he performs special film music concerts and collaborates with film composers Howard Shore , Randy Newman , and Martin Böttcher .

In 2008 he directed the world premiere of “The Fellowship of the Ring” at the KKL Luzern with the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra and the first complete live performance of the original film music for the first film in the trilogy The Lord of the Rings . These projects are widely known as "Live To Projection". In March 2009 the second part of the live performance of the trilogy followed and in February 2010 the third part ended the series. In May 2012 he conducted the orchestra for the film Perfume in front of a live audience at the 5th Film Music Festival in Krakow, Poland .

Until 2011, Wicki was the only conductor to conduct these concerts and has already been with them in Germany, Poland, the USA and London. In October 2009 he was allowed to make a guest appearance in New York with his orchestra. Further performances in Europe and America are planned.
