21st Century Orchestra
The 21st Century Orchestra (21CO) is an orchestra based in Lucerne . It was founded in 1999 by three musicians, including Ludwig Wicki . The orchestra specializes in the interpretation of film music as well as the performance of integral film music experiences.
history
The 21st Century Orchestra is one of the largest orchestras in Switzerland with a line-up of up to 100 musicians . Ludwig Wicki has been the conductor and artistic director of the orchestra since 1999 .
Since 2007 the orchestra has worked with Howard Shore , the composer of the soundtrack for the Lord of the Rings films by Peter Jackson . In 2008 this led to the world premiere of The Fellowship of the Ring , the first complete live performance of the score for the first film in the trilogy.
The continuation of the project with the second part of the trilogy The Two Towers took place in March 2009. The third part of the trilogy Return of the King took place in February 2010.
In spring 2011, the 21st Century Orchestra recorded the "Lord of the Rings Symphony" for the first time on CD for the HOWE Records label in cooperation with Bayerischer Rundfunk.
In December 2010, Pirates of the Caribbean premiered in collaboration with Disney . In the following years the premieres of the other films were carried out as "A Pirates Symphony". 2011: Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Caribbean 2 , 2012: Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End and on December 5, 2014 the premiere of the 4th film followed.
In May 2014 the orchestra performed the films Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness at the Royal Albert Hall .
In 2015, three world premieres followed at the KKL Luzern : Titanic with music by James Horner , Back to the Future by composer Alan Silvestri and Indiana Jones & Raiders of the Lost Ark with music by John Williams .
Two more world premieres were staged in 2016: Amadeus by director Miloš Forman and Batman (1989) with music by Danny Elfman .
In addition, Harry Potter was performed live for the first time in the KKL in the 2016/2017 season. Since then, the 21CO has regularly performed great masterpieces by John Williams, including the Harry Potter series and, since 2018, the Star Wars series.
In 2018 the logo was renewed and the club structures were also adapted.

21st Century Salon Orchestra
The 21st Century Salon Orchestra is a small, ten-piece orchestra that can be hired primarily for company events, but also privately.
21st Century Chorus
The 21st Century Chorus , founded in 2007, is a semi-professional project choir that strengthens the 21st Century Orchestra at concerts and thus enables the orchestra's musical repertoire to be expanded. Heads are Ludwig Wicki and Andreas Wiedmer .
