Swiss schools abroad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to the Organization of Swiss Abroad are the world 18 Swiss schools abroad also often Swiss schools written, supervised, provide the approximately 7,500 children lessons by Swiss principles. The schools abroad are private institutions of the individual communities of the Swiss Abroad, but are recognized and subsidized by the federal government. Under the umbrella of the Organization of the Swiss Abroad, educationsuisse takes care of the concerns of Swiss schools abroad.

The pupils can switch to the Swiss school system at any time without problems , apart from the fact that the school year in some countries starts in January / February, not in July / August as in Switzerland. This can mean that when a child changes from a Swiss school abroad to Switzerland, they have to complete either a shortened or an extended school year. Those who complete the high school level at a Swiss school abroad with the Matura or with the International Baccalaureate can then study in Switzerland.

Recognition by the federal government

In order for a school abroad to be recognized and subsidized as a Swiss school by the federal government, several requirements must be met. The school must be constituted as a non-profit organization under private law, be supported by a Swiss association and have a Swiss patronage canton at its side, which has to monitor the supervision of educational matters. Because a Swiss school must, on the one hand, adopt the curricula of the respective canton as far as possible (Swiss teachers with Swiss teaching diplomas, Swiss textbooks) and at the same time meet the legal requirements of the foreign state. This includes, for example, that both a Swiss national language and the local language at the school's location are the languages of instruction in order to satisfy both school systems. That is why the pupils of Swiss schools abroad usually have bilingual lessons in addition to language lessons, and in grammar schools often trilingual lessons in the subject subjects.
