The Swiss School Curitiba , ( Portuguese Colégio suíço-brasileiro de Curitiba ) is a bilingual private school recognized by the Brazilian state of Paraná . It is the only school in Curitiba with German and Portuguese as the language of instruction. The school includes crèche, kindergarten, primary and secondary level as well as grammar school. The pupils can acquire German, English and French language diplomas and complete the high school level with the International Baccalaureate Diploma, which enables access to many universities and colleges in Germany and abroad. The school is located in Pinhais , a suburb of Curitiba.

history

With the construction of the gigantic, binational Itaipú hydropower plant , in which ABB (at that time Brown, Bovery & Cie , abbreviated BBC) was involved along with other European companies, many skilled workers from Switzerland, Germany and Austria had moved to Curitiba. The history of the Swiss School begins with them.

In 1979 the association “Swiss School Curitiba” was founded. The school opened in 1980. Under the patronage of the Canton of Aargau , recognition by Switzerland followed in 1983 . In the same year, the Swiss school moved to a rented building in the Água Verde district.

At the beginning of the school year 1993, the school inaugurated its newly constructed building in Pinhais. A preschool was added in 1995 and a grammar school with two scientific laboratories and an auditorium was built in 1999. The school became a member of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).

A chalet was inaugurated in 2000 for the kindergarten (for 3 to 4 year olds) . The Swiss School Curitiba was integrated into the association of the partner school Swiss School São Paulo . Since then, the sponsoring association has been called the Association of Swiss Schools in Brazil.

IB diplomas have been awarded since 2001 and the school has had a bilingual library since 2002. In 2007 a second chalet (for 2 year olds) and new rooms for afternoon care, work and maintenance were built. A new sports hall was also inaugurated this year.

In 2010 the school achieved the ISO 9001/2008 certificate. In 2011, six more classrooms were added for the high school level. Since 2018 the school has been building an extension on the property it has bought.

During a week, the high school students control various virtual companies in order to compete within the framework of business simulations. They are coached by Swiss business experts and made aware of learning potential.

Voluntary study trips to Europe (Germany, Switzerland) and America (USA, Canada) are organized about every two years during the summer vacation. The school also supports student exchanges (schools in Germany, Switzerland).

The pupils actively participate in communication with the school community via the school festivals (sports day, knowledge day, mother's day, June festival, bazaar) and via the media channels on Youtube (Swiss School Channel) and Soundcloud (Swiss School Radio).
