Echinomastus intertextus is a species of plant in the genus Echinomastus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). English common names are "Chihuahua Pineapple Cactus", "Early Bloomer Cactus", "Interlacing Spine Cactus" and "White-Flowered Viznagita".

Echinomastus intertextus grows individually with spherical to somewhat cylindrical shoots covered by the thorns , which reach heights of 5 to 15 centimeters with a diameter of 4 to 7.5 centimeters. There are 11 to 13 ribs , which are clearly divided into 6 to 9 millimeter long cusps . The 4 central spines , elliptical in cross-section, are slightly pink or grayish in color and 1.2 to 4 centimeters long. The top three of them are directed upwards. The 13 to 25 spread, only slightly curved radial spines are whitish and 0.9 to 2 inches long.

The broad, funnel-shaped, pink or slightly pinkish-white flowers are 2 to 3 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 2.5 to 3 centimeters. The green fruits are spherical.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Echinomastus intertextus is common in the United States in the states of Arizona , New Mexico, and Texas, and in the Mexican states of Sonora , Chihuahua, and Coahuila .

It was first described as Echinocactus intertextus in 1856 by George Engelmann . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose placed them in the genus Echinomastus in 1922 . Nomenclatory synonyms are Thelocactus intertextus (Engelm.) WTMarshall (1947), Neolloydia intertexta (Engelm.) LDBenson (1969), Sclerocactus intertextus (Engelm.) NPTaylor (1987) and Pediocactus intertextus (Engelm.) Halda (1998).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
