Scomberomorus brasiliensis is a marine fish from the Scombridae familythat is found in the southern Caribbean and on the South American Atlantic coast . Some authors see Scomberomorus brasiliensis as a synonym for Scomberomorus maculatus . The fish is a sport fish and is fished commercially.

The spindle-shaped body is usually about 65 centimeters long, at most 125 centimeters SL . The first dorsal fin consists of 17 to (rarely) 19 hard rays . The fourth is the longest. Up to the eighth ray the fin is colored black. The high, tapered second dorsal fin usually also contains 17 to 18 soft rays , rarely 15 or 19. The anal fin consists of 17 to 19 soft rays. There are eight to ten fleas on the top of the tail stalk and nine on the underside. The caudal fin is large and deeply split. The pelvic fins located on the chest are very small. The pectoral fins are pointed and usually have 22 to 23 soft rays. The flanks are bluish silver and covered with medium-sized, yellowish spots, which become smaller towards the end of the body. The sideline is slightly wavy. There is no swim bladder . The teeth are quite large and curved backwards.
Habitat and Biology
Scomberomorus brasiliensis is an epipelagic, oceanodromic predatory fish. The species feeds mainly on fish, also on crustaceans and cephalopods. She lives on the shelf and shows a preference for reefs. She is a group fish .
