Puccinia panici-montani is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of millet . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. She is endemic to Taiwan .

features

Macroscopic features

Puccinia panici-montani can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Puccinia panici-montani grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Aecia or spermogonia of the species are not known. The yellow-brown uredia of the species grow on both sides of the leaves of the host plants. Their more or less cinnamon - brown uredospores are mostly ovate, 34–37 × 27–31 µm in size and finely spiky. The parts of the species are not yet known. The light golden to hazelnut brown teliospores are two-celled, usually oblong to club-shaped and 26–31 × 15–19 µm in size. Their stem is up to 18 µm long.

distribution

The known distribution area of Puccinia panici-montani only includes Taiwan .

ecology

The host plants of Puccinia panici-montani are the millet Setaria palmifolium and S. plicata . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species has a development cycle of which only uredia and their host are known so far; Telia, spermogonia and aecia could not be assigned to the fungus.
