Scorpion is a French martial arts film directed by Julien Seri . The film, produced in 2007, is set in the free fight environment of France.
action
Angelo, called Scorpion, hasn't achieved much in life. He clings everything to his dream of becoming a professional Thai boxer . However, he quickly loses control. When his coach preferred Patrick as a tournament fighter, he knocked out his training partner and was fired from the club. At night, on the street, Patrick confronts him and attacks him with two of his friends. But Angelo defends himself and kills his opponent full of anger.
Six years later, Angelo is released from prison. With no perspective, he becomes an alcoholic and neglected. His prison buddy Moïse introduces him to an acquaintance, the gangster Marcus. He wants to win him as a fighter for the free fight, a martial art that is banned in France, and use him in illegal tournaments. Angelo initially refuses. In the club he also meets the waitress Virginie, with whom he flirts. When he finds out that Moïse paid her to go out with him, his resistance is broken. He starts training again and is soon the star of the illegal fights that take place in warehouses and raves and are broadcast on the Internet.
Angelo starts an affair with Lea, who is actually called Elodie. Elodie works for the police and has disguised herself as a reporter to take down Marcus' organization and its business partner De Boers. But Angelo's thoughts are only about Virginie. He chases after her and can finally win her heart. But Virginie works as a prostitute for Marcus and is De Boers' favorite hooker. Marcus tries everything to break the two apart. Angelo is supposed to have one last fight with the free fight pro Elias, for which he is promised a professional career in Japan. But Marcus also wants to get rid of Virginie that night and offers her to De Boers for free. He threatens her son and puts her under pressure.
The fight between Angelo and Elias is relentless. Even when Angelo breaks his opponent's arm, the fighting continues. In the meantime, Moïse has a remorse and warns Angelo. He asks Elias to break off the fight. When Angelo leaves the ring, a police raid begins and Marcus is arrested. Angelo saves Virginie from her predicament. Thanks to the efforts of Eloise, the two are not convicted, while De Boers and Marcus are sentenced to long prison terms. Angelo and Virginie now live together as a couple.
background
The film was made with the participation of several mixed martial arts fighters who acted as actors as well as choreographers, including the K-1 fighter Jérôme Le Banner , who mimes Angelo's main opponent Elias. Leading actor Clovis Cornillac had to train four hours a day several weeks before filming in order to deliver a credible performance.
