Scorzonera cretica is a species of the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Scorzonera cretica is a perennial stem hemicryptophyte that reaches heights of 3 to 45 (rarely up to 60) centimeters. The hairiness of the plant is variable, it ranges from thickly tomentose to almost bare. The stem is leafy. The leaves are 5 to 30 centimeters long and linear.

The shell is 10 to 30 millimeters in size, fruiting it is up to 40 millimeters in size. The fruits are densely shaggy to woolly. The shape and color of the pappus as well as the size of the shell, the pappus and the fruits are very variable.

The flowering period extends from April to May.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 12 or 12 + 1B.

Occurrence

Scorzonera cretica occurs in the Kardägäis . They can be found in Greece, Crete and the Aegean Sea. In Crete the kind of crevices grows, in Phrygana as well as on rocky and sandy coasts at altitudes from 0 to 1400 meters.
