Scott Hill (trombonist)

Scott Cathcart Hill (born October 6, 1947 - April 24, 2018 ) was an American jazz trombonist who was active in the Dixieland scene in his hometown New Orleans .

Live and act

Hill grew up in New Orleans, attended Fortier High School (graduated in 1965) and studied at Loyola University there (graduated in 1969). In the course of his career he played a. a. with Ellis Marsalis (with whom he also appeared at Carnegie Hall ), Ella Fitzgerald , Vince Vance and Teresa Brewer ; he also toured in France. He also played regularly in the Preservation Hall . In the 1970s he was a member of the French Market Jazz Band , with whom he recorded the albums Direct from New Orleans and A Buggy Full of Jazz Vol 2 ; Hill also worked as a local historian. In the field of jazz he was involved in further recording sessions between 1970 and 1977 with Frank Trapani ( Down in Honky Tonk Town ), Wallace Davenport ( Sweet Georgia Brown , 1974) and Aline White ( I Shall Not Be Moved , 1974).

The trombonist should not be confused with the American jazz woodwind player of the same name, who u. a. played with Stéphane Kerecki .
