The Scott River is a 88 km long left tributary of the Klamath River in the northwest of the US state California . It drains an area of 2105 km².

The Scott River arises at the confluence of its two headwaters, the South Fork and East Fork Scott River near Callahan in Siskiyou County . It initially flows north through a plateau in the Klamath Mountains . The towns of Etna and Fort Jones are on the river. The Scott River then turns west and cuts through the mountains in an arc running to the right. The Scott River Road runs along the course of the river. At Scott Bar , Mill Creek flows into the river from the right. The Scott River flows north in the lower reaches and finally meets the Klamath River.

The South Fork Scott River is the left headwaters of the Scott River. It has its origin in the South Fork Lakes . The river is 18 km long.

The East Fork Scott River is the right headwaters of the Scott River. It flows over a distance of 26 km in a south-westerly direction.

Ecosystem

In the Scott River system there are a. the following fish: silver salmon ( Oncorhynchus kisutch ), steelhead trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) and king salmon ( Oncorhynchus tshawytscha ). In the summer of 2014, due to an unusually dry phase in the Scott River catchment area and the resulting low water level in a section of the Scott River, a large number of juvenile fish of these salmonids were caught and released again at other more favorable locations.

The course of the Scott River below the confluence of Shackleford Creek is classified as a National Wild and Scenic River .
