Scum's Wish ( Japanese ク ズ の 本 懐 Kuzu no Honkai ) is a manga series by Mengo Yokoyari , which was released in Japan from 2012 to 2017. It can be classified into the genres of drama, romance and his own and has been adapted as a dorama and anime television series.

At their high school, Mugi Awaya ( 粟 屋 麦 ) and Hanabi Yasuraoki ( 安 楽 岡 花火 ) are perceived as the perfect couple who are popular with everyone else, even if many are jealous of their luck. But in fact both are not in love with each other, they just pretend it is. They love their teachers: Hanabi their class teacher Narumi Kanai ( 鐘 井 鳴 海 ), whom she has known and loved since childhood, and Mugi the music teacher Akane Minagawa ( 皆川 茜 ). But both had to find that those they desired do not love them, but each other. So the students made the pact to fake a couple until they can finally get together with their true love.

The manga was published in Big Gangan magazine from September 2012 to March 2017 . The publisher Square Enix brought the chapter out in eight anthologies. These were each sold over 80,000 times in Japan. A total of over 1.9 million volumes had been printed by the end of 2017.

A German translation of the series was published in full by Kazé Germany between April 2018 and August 2019 . Yen Press published the series in English, with the version also published online by Crunchyroll , and a Chinese translation was published by Tong Li Publishing .

An art book entitled Ambivalent was published in Japan in December 2016 . Since November 2017 a sequel has been published in the same magazine, also created by Mengo Yokoyari , under the title Kuzu no Honkai décor . Its German translation was published by Kazé in August 2019.

Anime adaptation

An anime adaptation of the manga was created at Studio Lerche under the direction of Masaomi Andō . Makoto Uezu wrote the scripts and Tomonari Suzuki was the artistic director . The character design was created by Keiko Kurosawa . The responsible producers were Gō Wakabayashi , Naokado Fujiyama and Shota Komatsu .

The 12 episodes were broadcast on Fuji TV in the Noitamina program block from January 12 to March 30, 2017 . Amazon Prime Video and Anime Strike showed English subtitled versions, Amazon Prime also showed German and Spanish subtitles.

The music in the series was composed by Masaru Yokoyama . The opening credits are Uso no Hibana ( 嘘 の 火花 ) by 96Neko and the credits are underlaid with the song Heikōsen ( 平行 線 ) by Sayuri.

Actual filming

After scripts by Ere Hagiwara and Motoko Takahashi , a real-life version of the manga was made for Japanese television in 2017. Directed by Shogo Miyaki and Shunsuke Shinada , the music is by Yui Koichi . The series was shown roughly parallel to the anime series, from January 18 to April 5, 2017 by Fuji TV .
