Sean Stephenson

Sean Clinch Stephenson ( May 5, 1979 - August 28, 2019 ) was an American therapist , self-help author and motivational speaker . Being born with osteogenesis imperfecta , Stephenson was only 91 cm tall, had glass bones and had to use a wheelchair.

Life

When Stephenson was born, doctors quickly recognized the signs of the genetic disease osteogenesis imperfecta, also known colloquially as glass bone disease. Most of his bones were broken at birth. He was taken to Chicago Children's Hospital for intensive care. Doctors warned his parents that he might die soon. He survived, but spent much of his youth in pain and experienced the dwarfism and restricted mobility that are common for people with his type of osteogenesis imperfecta.

Professionally, he worked successfully as a motivational speaker and received up to 30,000 US dollars per appearance. A one-hour documentary about Sean Stephenson was broadcast on The Biography Channel in 2009.

On May 14, 2011, Stephenson asked for Mindie Kniss' hand. The couple married on September 14, 2012.

He died on August 28, 2019 during emergency surgery due to a head injury he sustained.
