Sebastian Esser

Sebastian Esser (* 1976 in Hachenburg ) is a German journalist and entrepreneur.

Life

Sebastian Esser studied political science and sociology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , at the University of Konstanz and at the Sorbonne . He completed an editorial training at the Berlin School of Journalism .

From 2004 to 2006 he was editor-in-chief of the media magazine ViSdP. From 2006 to 2008 he was a political editor on the founding team of the German edition of Vanity Fair , which was first published in February 2007 . Together with the journalist Hajo Schumacher , he founded the start-up Spredder in 2009 , which was taken over by Deutsche Post AG in 2011 .

In 2012, Esser Krautreporter started as a crowdfunding platform for journalism. In 2014 he founded - also under the name Krautreporter - an online magazine that was financed by the largest German crowdfunding campaign to date. Today Esser is editor of Krautreporter and board member of the Krautreporter cooperative .

In 2017 he founded the start-up company Steady , which independent publications such as online magazines, blogs and podcasts can use to fund themselves through membership programs based on the Krautreporter model.
