Sebastian Lukács Gorka ( Hungarian Sebestyén Lukács Gorka ; born October 22, 1970 in London ) is an American political scientist. He worked until August 25, 2017 as Deputy Assistant for the Executive Office of the President of the United States . He was born in the UK to Hungarian parents , lived in Hungary from 1992 to 2008 and has been an American citizen since 2012.

Life

Gorka was born in Hammersmith to Zsuzsa Biro and Pál Gorka. His parents fled to the UK after the Hungarian uprising . He spent his school days at St. Benedict's School in west London. The Heythrop College awarded him the title Bachelor of Arts in the subjects of philosophy and theology . While at university, he joined the Territorial Army and was part of the Intelligence Corps .

In 1992 Gorka moved to Hungary where he worked for the Ministry of Defense. In addition, he completed a master’s degree in international relations and diplomacy . He graduated from Corvinus University in Budapest in 1997 . A year later, Gorka worked as a consultant for Viktor Orbán . In 2002 he entered the doctoral program and finished it in 2007 with a dissertation in the field of political science . Gorka values the title "Doctor". There are considerable doubts as to whether Gorka legitimately holds this Corvinus University degree.

During the term of office of the Hungarian Prime Minister József Antall , Gorka worked in the Ministry of Defense.

After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , Sebastian Gorka advanced to become an anti-terrorist expert on Hungarian television. In 2002 he was appointed to a parliamentary committee of inquiry as an expert. This was supposed to investigate whether Péter Medgyessy had worked for the counter-espionage of the state security of communist Hungary, the Államvédelmi Hatóság . Gorka herself was not given clearance to work for the committee. It was commonly believed that he himself worked as a spy for the British counter-espionage. In response to these allegations, he replied that his time with the counterintelligence unit was only intended to investigate threats from groups like the IRA.

In 2004 Gorka became a faculty assistant of the newly founded initiative "Program for Terrorism and Security Studies (PTSS)". This sits at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and was funded by the United States Department of Defense . Around the same time he became an assistant at the Joint Special Operations University in the United States Special Operations Command .

Gorka was an advisor to US President Donald Trump until August 25, 2017 . Gorka is considered a right-wing conspiracy theorist with close contacts to the Alt-Right . He was - contrary to his account that he had resigned - dismissed after a communication from the White House.
