Sebastián Esteban Herrera Kratzborn (born November 1, 1997 in Vitacura ) is a Chilean basketball player who also has German citizenship. The winger measures 1.93 meters and belongs to the squad of EWE Baskets Oldenburg .

Player career

Herrera grew up in Chile and began his basketball career in the youth department of the CD Universidad Católica de Chile club. He made the leap to the club’s men's team and played for the first time in the highest Chilean season, the Liga Nacional, during the 2013-14 season. In spring 2014 at the Albert Schweitzer tournament he aroused the interest of the talent scout of the Bundesliga club TBB Trier and accepted the club's offer to move to Trier for the 2014/15 season. Herrera strengthened the second Trier men's team in the regional league and the U19 team in the youth basketball league .

After the bankruptcy and withdrawal of the TBB, Herrera stayed in Trier and made it into the squad of the TBB successor club Gladiators Trier , which took part in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA game from the 2015/16 season . In the course of his first ProA season he posted 29 appearances in the second highest German division and achieved averages of 4.9 points and two rebounds per encounter. He also gained match practice in Trier's second team in the regional league.

In June 2017 he left Trier and moved to the Crailsheim Merlins within the second division . With the Hohenlohern he became runner-up in the second-highest German division in May 2018, which also meant promotion to the Bundesliga. On the way to this success, Herrera was used in 38 league games in the 2017/18 season and averaged 8.1 points. On the first day of the 2018/19 season Herrera made his debut in the Bundesliga for Crailsheim when he scored five points against Bremerhaven. He played a total of 33 Bundesliga games for Crailsheim in 2018/19, scored an average of 4.5 points per game and was relegated to the team on the last match day. In addition to his professional career, he began studying media and communication management.

After convincing with a points average of 14.4 per Bundesliga game in the 2019/20 season, he moved within the league to Oldenburg during the 2020 summer break.

National team

With Chile's U16 national team he took part in the American Championship in 2013 and a year later with the country's U18 in the Albert Schweitzer tournament in Germany. In 2016, Herrera was appointed to the Chilean senior national team for the first time and took part in the South American Championship in Venezuela with her in the same year.

Herrera is the son of a German from Munich and a Chilean who played in the first Chilean basketball league.
