Sebastian Regulator (born November 27, 1884 in Suss near Hahnbach , † November 10, 1959 in Amberg) was a full-time mayor in Amberg .

Life

His school days at the Königlich Humanistische Gymnasium in Amberg were followed by a law degree in Munich and Erlangen , which he completed in 1910. After that, Sebastian Regulator worked as a lawyer and then as a public prosecutor in Amberg.

From 1914 to 1918 he was a company leader in the 6th Infantry Regiment and participated in the First World War . In 1916 he was seriously wounded off Verdun .

In 1919 he entered the service of the city of Amberg, first as a legal advisor, then as the professional 2nd legally qualified mayor. On March 22, 1933, he and the Lord Mayor Eduard Klug , who, like the regulator, belonged to the Bavarian People's Party , were given a forced leave by the National Socialists . After joining the NSDAP , he was brought back to his previous functions as legal counsel and professional, legally qualified mayor on March 24, 1933.

After Lord Mayor Josef Filbig was drafted into the Air Force in 1939 , Sebastian Regulator also took over the mayor's office for the duration of the war . For the city of Amberg he was the local air raid protection officer . During this time regulator was also chairman of the Bavarian Red Cross for the Amberg and Nabburg districts . The official burdens during the war and the threat of the court martial from the NSDAP district leader in the struggle to preserve the city of Amberg during the last months of the war had made him sick. Few of those who were loyal to the party wanted to hold onto the defense order until the NSDAP district leader Artur Kolb sought death in rifle fire on the Raigeringer Höhe. There were only a few Wehrmacht troops in the city. The population wanted a handover without a fight, as did the air raid protection officer, Mayor Sebastian Regulator, and his advisers. The American troops entered Amberg on the evening of April 22, 1945. On the morning of April 23, 1945 he formally surrendered the city of Amberg to the American Army . On May 15, 1945, Sebastian Regulator was dismissed from the service and then retired.

Afterlife

The city of Amberg named Sebastian-Regulator-Strasse on the Eisberg after the honorary citizen.
