Sebastian Thörig (* around 1556 , 1557 in Urnäsch ; † probably March 23, 1611 ; resident in Urnäsch) was a Swiss Landammann and delegate from the Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Sebastian Thörig was probably a grandson of Sebastian Thörig. In 1582 he married Katharina Rotach. Circa from 1588 to 1610 he was parish captain of Urnäsch. From 1595 to 1610 he served as the delegate of the Diet, from 1595 to 1597 as Landammann of the entire State of Appenzell and from 1598 to 1610 as Landammann of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. During the partition of Appenzell, Thörig was a leading politician in the Outer Rhodes and a staunch opponent of joining the pay and military alliance with Spain . He was strongly committed to the uniformity of faith in accordance with the territorial principle and rejected Catholic services in Ausserrhoden. This manifested itself in the so-called Tanner trade from 1598 to 1599. In 1603 he was a delegate at the peace conference between Savoy and Geneva in Saint-Julien .
