Sebastian Welker

Sebastian Welker (* 1983 in Karlsruhe ) is a German opera director .

Life

As the son of the opera singer Hartmut Welker , Sebastian Welker was confronted with the world of opera from childhood. He learned directing from 2003 to 2005 from Willy Decker and accompanied productions at De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam , the Salzburg Festival , the Komische Oper Berlin and the Vienna State Opera .

Later he accompanied several productions such as by Christof Loy , Brigitte Fassbaender , Keith Warner and Denis Krief at various theaters such as the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe , the Frankfurt Opera and the St. Gallen Theater .

Welker began his permanent engagement as assistant director at the Saarland State Theater in Saarbrücken in 2007, where he worked with directors such as Inga Levant , Immo Karaman , Dagmar Schlingmann , Penelope Wehrli and Fura dels Baus.

In addition to his work as an assistant director, he studied singing for a few semesters at the Hochschule für Musik Saar with Rosemarie Bühler and has worked as a freelance director since 2011.
