The Sebastianbach is a brook that flows through the market town of Puchberg am Schneeberg in southern Lower Austria .

The two sources of the brook are on the Mamauwiese, on the one hand near the Sebastianhütte and on the other hand near the chapel on the Wastl. The Mamauwiese is located between the Dürren Leiten and the Großenberg in the border area of the communities Gutenstein and Puchberg am Schneeberg. The stream then flows east towards the center of Puchberg, where it feeds the pond that was artificially created around 1900, and then continues alongside Wiener Neustädter Strasse before it flows into the Sierning .

The Sebastian waterfall

Around four kilometers from the center of Puchberg, in the Sonnleiten district, there is the Sebastian waterfall ( ), a popular starting point for various hikes. Among other things, the long-distance hiking trail for numerous groups of pilgrims from Burgenland leads past here on the way to Mariazell . The waterfall not only serves as a sight, but is used with the walls next to it for climbing and ice climbing. World icon

Previous use

Around 1900 there were a total of 38 sawmills in the municipality of Puchberg am Schneeberg , several of which were powered by the Sebastianbach. Due to the advancing electrification in the 20th century, they were left to decay because they could not be adapted to the new technology. Today only three gang saws are in operation, but they are powered by diesel engines.
