Sebastian Chapel

The Sebastianskapelle is a Roman Catholic chapel in Hellikon in the canton of Aargau . It belongs to the parish of Wegenstetten- Hellikon and is located on Chilchgässli in Oberdorf.

The chapel was built in 1696 and was donated by the widow Elisabeth Lindauer. The vicar general of Basel made the consecration. After the parish of Wegenstetten-Hellikon involuntarily had to forego the use of the church in Wegenstetten in favor of the Christian Catholics around 1880 , the Sebastian Chapel served the Old Believers in both villages as a temporary worship room - until a new Christian Catholic church building in Hellikon was built in 1947/48. A complete restoration took place in 1995.

The small, white plastered building has an arched loft in front of the entrance , creating a kind of portal vestibule . A continuous gable roof combines the core building and gallery. In the area of the choir the roof is hilted and is surmounted by a bell carrier. The window panes from 1895 have cross-shaped stained glass inserts in the style of Art Deco . The altar is neo-Gothic and consists of a wooden retable with eyelashes , side turrets and silhouette-like decorative motifs.
