The Seepark Niederweimar is a commercially operated swimming lake and a local recreation area near Marburg in the south of the Marburg-Biedenkopf district . It is also known as the Weimarer See recreational area.

Geography and accessibility

The Seepark is located east of Niederweimar , a district of the municipality of Weimar (Lahn) in the south of the Marburg-Biedenkopf district, directly on the Main-Weser railway and the Lahntal cycle path . The cycle path and the train lead from Kassel to Gießen and on to Frankfurt. On the eastern side of the lake are the autobahn and federal highway 3 , and on the western side the railway connection between Frankfurt Kassel and the train station goes along.

history

Originally, the quarry pond in Niederweimar was exclusively a digging hole in which gravel was extracted. In 1981 the excavator hole was flooded. In 1982 the lake was converted by the Hot Sport company in cooperation with the municipality and Lahn Waschkies (former owner) into a bathing beach with a slide for children and a small playground . In 1998, Hot Sport Sportschulen GmbH , which at that time had leased the lake since 1982 and was already running a paragliding school in Ronneburg , bought the lake from the Lahn Waschkies company. Hot Sport built a water ski and wakeboard facility and a beach bar. Showers and changing rooms have been set up in the old surf school buildings. 2009 was the last season in which the old summer-season containers were still in use. In 2009 the building was completely demolished and a new office building that could be used all year round was built. In addition to changing rooms, showers and toilets, a first aid room, there is also a restaurant, event space, administration, a shop for paragliding items and a caretaker's apartment for night watch and employees. In 2018, a flood from the Lahn flooded the Seepark in winter. Basement rooms, sanitary facilities, sandy beaches and electrical systems of the water ski facility were flooded and had to be replaced at short notice in spring. The Seepark has been open to visitors again since May 2018.
