The Seeshaupt was the largest day excursion ship in regular service on Lake Starnberg . The ship was operated by Bayerische Seenschifffahrt . It had 900 seats on three decks. The Seeshaupt was decommissioned on September 11, 2011 after more than 55 years of service.

history

On September 15, 1953, the Bavarian State Ministry of Economics and Transport awarded the construction contract for the day excursion ship on Lake Starnberg to the Ruthof shipyard in Regensburg . Work on the ship began on January 7, 1954. The final assembly took place on May 15th in Starnberg, where the ship was launched from the Starnberg slipway in October 1954 after a five-month construction period. The ship, which in the final stage cost 1.8 million DM, was completed on March 19 and christened on March 30, 1955 . The official maiden voyage took place on the same day . When it was commissioned, it was the most modern ship in the fleet. During the general overhaul in the winter of 1991/92, the passenger capacity was reduced from 1,200 to 900 seats. In particular, the dining facilities and children's play facilities have been improved. After a farewell voyage on September 2, the ship was decommissioned on September 11, 2011 and then scrapped. It was replaced on July 13, 2012 by a new building of the same name .

technology

The double Voith-Schneider drive made it possible to maneuver the ship in a small space and to stop at a speed of 10 km / h on just one length of the ship. A 360 ° rotation was possible within two minutes.
