Seff Gessinger (born January 10, 1915 in Staucha ; † December 17, 1988 in Hirschsprung ) was a German poet and composer .

life and work

Seff Gessinger spent his childhood and youth in Tharandt , where he studied forestry . The foundation stone for his love for his homeland and the Ore Mountain Forest was laid. After the war he came to Hirschsprung in 1947 , worked here as a forester, started a family and lived with her in the forester's house "Wackelbartsruh" next to the mill.

Seff Gessinger campaigned for the development of cultural work in the area. As early as 1948 he founded the Hirschsprunger Volkschor, from which the Erzgebirge singing group “Herschsprunger Feierohmdleit” soon emerged. The group existed for more than 20 years until 1970 and delighted tourists and locals with songs and poems in many events. Seff Gessinger's endeavor during this time was to enrich the Ore Mountains folk art with his own poems and compositions . His role model was above all Max Nacke from the “old caterpillar nest”, with whom he had a warm friendship. In his poems and songs, Seff Gessinger captured many events and people in his homeland in a humorous way and reported delicately about the Erzgebirge homeland and culture.
