Włosienica ( German Wlocienitz ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the rural community Oświęcim in the powiat Oświęcimski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship .

geography

Włosienica is located in the Auschwitz Basin ( Kotlina Oświęcimska ), by the Włosianka brook , 8 km east of the center of Oświęcim .

Neighboring towns are the city of Oświęcim in the northwest, Stawy Monowskie in the northeast, Przeciszów in the east, Polanka Wielka in the south, and Poręba Wielka in the west.

history

On April 30, 1285 Adam, the treasurer in Oświęcim, awarded a certain Miłosław 60 Franconian hooves from a forest between Oświęcim, Grojec and Włosienica ( In silva inter Wlosnizam willam ) for the establishment of a new village - Poręba Wielka . The name is possibly derived from the stream mentioned in the same document as Super fluvium qui Wlosaniza nominatur (later Włosianka ). On June 9, 1318, the local farmer named Milęta was mentioned in a ducal document. In 1442 it was named as Słowieńskie [Slavonic] Włosiennice . The identification of Włosienica with the parish Villa Hertmani in the 14th century is wrong (most likely Przeciszów ), the local church was first mentioned by Jan Długosz (1470 to 1480) in the sentence Wloszyenycza, villa habens ecclesiam liqueam .

Since 1290 the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen and since 1315 to the Duchy of Auschwitz . From 1327 the duchy was under the feudal rule of the Kingdom of Bohemia . In 1457 the duchy was bought by the Polish king, including the village of Włoszenycza . Subsequently, the Duchy of Auschwitz was completely attached to the Kingdom of Poland in 1564, as the Silesia District of the Krakow Voivodeship , and from 1569 in the Polish-Lithuanian aristocratic republic .

The place was on the way from Krakow to Auschwitz and on to other Silesian countries. A bridge over the Włosianka was mentioned as early as 1417. Around 1600 there was a customs chamber there, with less than 200 inhabitants, who remained Roman Catholic, in contrast to neighboring, private and reformed Polanka and Przeciszów.

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Włosienica became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Włosienica became part of Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the district of Bielitz in the administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia (since 1941 province of Upper Silesia ).

From 1975 to 1998 Włosienica was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
