Rajsko ( German Raisko ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the rural community Oświęcim in the powiat Oświęcimski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship .

Rajsko is located in the Auschwitz Basin ( Kotlina Oświęcimska ), on the Soła .

Neighboring towns are the city of Oświęcim in the north, Grojec (Stawy Grojeckie) in the east, Wilczkowice in the south, the city of Brzeszcze in the southwest, Harmęże in the west, Pławy in the northwest.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1272 as Raysko . In that year it was donated by Duke Wladislaus I of Opole to Herman Nachbaragel in order to be re-established under German law. The name comes from the word raj (German paradise ).

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Opole-Ratibor ( Kastellanei Auschwitz) during the period of Polish particularism . The duchy was divided in 1281 after the death of Wladislaus I von Opole . Since 1290 the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen and since 1315 to the Duchy of Auschwitz . Since 1327 consisted suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia , in 1457 the village was from Poland bought and when Raysko mentioned.

During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Rajsko became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Rajsko came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . The Raisko subcamp existed there from June 1943 to January 1945.

From 1975 to 1998 Rajsko was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
