history
The place was founded in 1285 by Komes Adam as Sępnia . Shortly afterwards the name was changed. It was mentioned as [Item Mathias, plebanus ecclesie de] Paromba in the tithe arrears register of the year 1326 in the Auschwitz deanery of the Krakow diocese . In the years 1335–1342 as Primo de Poramba . The name Poręba is widespread, Polish for “forest clearing”, “clear cut”, the adjective Wielka (first in the 16th century) means big .
In 1350 the village with the double name Suthnar seu [- or] Poramba was mentioned in the Peterspfennigregister . Kurt Lück described the village as a German settlement, as if there had been a narrow connection from Auschwitz through Polanka Wielka (allegedly Keymansdorf ) and Osiek ( Bratmansdorff ) to the Bielitz-Bialaer Sprachinsel . But his criteria were very generous and tendentious.
Since 1290 the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen and since 1315 to the Duchy of Auschwitz . Since 1327 was the fiefdom of the Kingdom of Bohemia , in 1457 from Poland bought and when Poramba mentioned.
During the first partition of Poland , Poreba Wielka came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).
In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Poręba Wielka came to Poland. This was interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .
From 1975 to 1998 Poręba Wielka was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
