Osiek is a village in the powiat Oświęcimski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with around 8,200 inhabitants.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1278 as Ossech . The parish of Ossek was mentioned in the Peterspfennigregister of 1326 in the Auschwitz deanery of the Krakow diocese . In 1400, an unidentified village in the Duchy of Auschwitz was mentioned as Bratmansdorff , perhaps a fleeting name for the village ( Deutsche Ostsiedlung ?).

Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Opole-Ratibor ( Kastellanei Auschwitz) during the period of Polish particularism . The duchy was divided in 1281 after the death of Wladislaus I von Opole . Since 1290 the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen and since 1315 to the Duchy of Auschwitz . Since 1327 consisted suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia . In 1457 it was bought by Poland and mentioned as Osschek .

During the first partition of Poland , Osiek came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Osiek came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Osiek was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
