The Borghorst airfield (also Borghorst-Füchten ) is a glider airfield . Mainly there are winch and aircraft tow starts of gliders . The airfield is approved for gliders, powered gliders, powered aircraft with a tow coupling, microlight aircraft and model aircraft and has a grass runway of 1000 m length. The glider airfield is on the road between the towns of Emsdetten and Borghorst in the Ostendorf peasantry , which belongs to the Steinfurt district. The alignment of the runway is 06 and 24. The frequency is 123.260 MHz and is called with Borghorst Info. The motorized airfield circuit is in the north of the field, the glider airfield circuit in the south. There is no ICAO identifier.

history

The history of the airfield begins in 1959. It was officially opened on May 1, 1959 by the then Mayor Fockenbrock under the name “Glider Airfield Borghorst-Füchten”. In 1962 the resident associations Burgsteinfurt eV and Borghorst eV dissolved. Thereupon today's Luftsportgemeinschaft Steinfurt eV was founded.

In September 2003, the best young glider pilots from North Rhine-Westphalia came together for a weekend competition for young people . Around 150 pilots took part.

On May 1st, 2009 LSG Steinfurt celebrated the 50th anniversary of the glider site with a public flying day.

In the years 2012–2013, the grass runway was completely renewed and now offers significantly fewer bumps on takeoffs and landings.

In 2013 the aviation community organized an aerobatics weekend with neighboring aviation clubs. There was also an aerobatics course.

Clubs and aircraft park

The Luftsportgemeinschaft Steinfurt eV is based at the Borghorst glider airfield. LSG Steinfurt eV maintains two motor gliders ( ASK 16 and Scheibe SF 25 Falke with tow coupling), as well as six gliders ( ASK 13 , K 8 , TWIN G103 ACRO , LS4 , DG 300 and ASW 20 ) and an ultralight aircraft of the Eurostar EV97 type .
