The Schleicher ASK 16 is a two-seater motor glider in a mixed construction , in which the two seats are arranged side by side (side-by-side).

history

The ASK 16 was developed by Rudolf Kaiser to compete with the successful Scheibe-Falken and built 44 times by Alexander Schleicher from 1970 to 1977 .

The ASK 16 is a touring motor glider with manually retractable main landing gear, rigid tail wheel and optional controllable pitch propeller. The aircraft has an unusually high aerodynamic quality for a composite construction; this is achieved by plywood planking the back of the fuselage and a GRP cladding of the front part of the fuselage, which is actually a fabric-covered tubular steel construction. The wings and the tail unit are made of wood. Access is via a walk-on strip on the left wing through a plexiglass hood that opens to the right. A Limbach SL 1700 EBI with 67 hp was selected as the engine ; at least one conversion to the more powerful L 2000 with 80 hp is documented. The tank has a capacity of 40 liters; the converted model has a capacity of 65 liters.
